Wally

Wally Dallenbach Jr. has carved a niche as one of the America’s premier road racers. Both of his career-high runner-up finishes came on the road course at Watkins Glen, N.Y., during NASCAR Winston Cup Series events. Neither came as a surprise… for he’s a four-time winner of the prestigious 24 Hours of Daytona and three-time victor int he 12 hours of Sebring.

He was the 1985 and 1986 SCCA Trans-Am champion and parlayed his success in that, as well as the IMSA series, into a full-time Winston Cup ride. He broke into the sport in 1991 with car owner Junie Donlavey. One year later, he secured a ride with Roush Racing int eh No. 16 Keystone Beer Ford as a teammate of Mark Martin.

Throughout his career, Dallenbach has been sought by the top owners in the sport. Noted owners like Jack Roush, Bud Moore, Felix Sabates, and Rick Hendrick called Wally  their go-to-man. And with support from Fortune 500 sponsors like Coors Brewing Company, First Union, Budweiser, and Turner Broadcasting, Dallenbach has made a name for himself.

He has amassed more than $5 million in career earnings and enjoyed his best year on the circuit in 1999 when he had numerous top-five and top-ten finishes for championship team owner Rick Hendrick and sponsor Anheuser Busch (Budweiser).

In 2000, Dallenbach delivered veteran experience to the newly formed Winston Cup Galaxy Motorsports with a triad of sponsors that included RotoZip, Turner Broadcasting, and Red Cell Battery. When the team unexpectedly folded after just one season, Dallenbach was left without a ride for 2001, but that quickly became a fortuitous situation for the veteran driver.

TNT/NBC Sports acted quickly and lured Dallenbach away from a solid ride offer and into the TV booth as its choice for expert color analyst. He complemented a popoular trio (with broadcast partners Bill Weber and Benny Parsons) with insight, candor, and quick wit. No doubt respected on the track, Dallenbach has proven he’s even more popular, valuable to the TV team and a natural behind the camera. NASCAR TV ratings are up more than 25% over last year’s record ratings numbers.

Dallenbach is an avid outdoors man and has traveled the world seeking adventure. He grew up in Basalt, CO, near the renowned ski resort town of Aspen. Dallenbach’s father, Wally Sr. is a former driver himself and served as the chief steward and director of competition for the CART Fed Ex Champ Car Series until the end of 2000. Dallenbach and his wife, Robin, have three children (Jake, Wyatt, and Katie and maintain a residence in San Antonio.
